Es gibt Bilder, die Bilder kontrollieren. Solche Kontrollbilder können kulturell und symbolisch sein, wie Stereotypen und Klischees, die zu Diskriminierung führen oder Identifikation ermöglichen. Der Spiegel ist ein solches Kontrollbild, eine visuelle Oberfläche, auf der sich das eigene Selbst/Bild reflektiert. Kontrollbilder sind nicht nur kulturell, sondern immer schon technisch verfasst und geben Formate und Werte vor, legen Maßstäbe und Qualitäten fest. In dieser Arbeit werden die technischen und symbolischen Aspekte solcher Kontrollbilder miteinander verschränkt. Gespielt wird mit der In/Transparenz des Spiegels als visueller Oberfläche und in den Fokus der Aufmerksamkeit rücken die unscheinbaren Formen technischer Kontrollbilder: „Schnittmarken“, die den Zuschnitt eines Bildes vorgeben, die runden „Siemenssterne“, mit denen sich die Auflösung des Bildes prüfen lässt oder die “Farbkontrollstreifen” am Rand, welche die Druckqualität der Farben sichtbar machen.

There are images that control images. Such controlling images can be cultural and symbolic, such as stereotypes and clichés that lead to discrimination or enable identification. The mirror is such a controlling image, a visual surface on which one’s self/image is reflected. Images of control are not only culturally, but always already technically composed and specify formats and values, establish standards and qualities. In this work, the technical and symbolic aspects of such images of control are intertwined. The work plays with the in/transparency of the mirror as a visual surface and focuses attention on the inconspicuous forms of technical control images: “crop marks” that determine how an image is cut, the round “Siemens stars” that can be used to check the resolution of the image or the “colour control strips” at the edge that make the print quality of the colours visible.
